NFPA In-Building Fire Codes - Implications for In-Building Coverage, Public Safety and Smart Cities

  • Tuesday, March 28, 2017: 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM
  • Room: S227
  • Session Number:  T214

Description

Hear an in-depth review of the changes to the NFPA’s code requirements for in-building two-way radio coverage for public safety communications.  Examine basic radio principles as they apply to in-building coverage, while defining the stakeholders, including the ATP (Acceptance Test Procedure) of these systems, infrastructure considerations and tips for inspections. In addition, examine how Agencies Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) struggle with comprehensive technical challenges, and enforcement has wide and changing parameters from district to district, and how industry players including builders, architects, electrical engineers as they are similarly challenged by changing requirements that some view as arbitrary and perhaps legally questionable. And finally, hear a case study on how the two-hour fire rating survivability requirement was met by using ingenuity and design options that met code, saved money and reduced design complexity.
