In Partnership With

LMR Sustainment through Spectrum and Infrastructure Sharing

  • Tuesday, 03/28/2017: 1:30 PM - 2:15 PM
  • Room: S233
  • Session Number:  T231

With the advent of FirstNet and the promise of ubiquitous wireless broadband service for public safety agencies, Land Mobile Radio (LMR) must now compete for valuable and scarce resources to support the public safety communications mission.  LMR Sustainment can be accomplished through a number of means including: education of the decision-makers of the importance of LMR, developing partnerships among Federal, State, and local public safety agencies, sharing resources such as spectrum, equipment, tower sites, and dispatch facilities, and developing common operating procedures for the coordination and use of these systems.  The Federal Partnership for Interoperable Communications (FPIC) developed partnerships to guarantee LMR sustainment in the years ahead; fostered statewide and regional partnerships to enhance interoperability between federal, state, and local public safety agencies; and how the use of encryption can protect sensitive mission- critical information and be effectively deployed and managed.
