- Thursday, March 30, 2017: 2:00 PM - 3:15 PM
- Room: S227
- Session Number:
What we now call the “Internet of Things” (IoT) represents connectivity and opens up new opportunities in the emergency communications segment. Sensors, monitors, beacons, PERS, alarms and more can now be integrated with public safety to augment real-time analysis and decision making. The Internet of Public Safety Things (IoPST) holds great promise for First Responders, allowing them to do their job with greater safety, precision and speed. As these new technologies are paving the path for a next- generation emergency response through better resource management, visualization, sensor data collection, communication, and information fusion, public safety must also contend with significant new challenges as a result of these newly available technologies. Examine the pros and cons of IoPST, and hear a case study of sensors, wearable devices, integrated vehicles and gateways that allowed a SWAT team to take their exercise to the next level.
