In a general sense, the Internet of Things has been around for a long time through machine-to-machine (M2M) communications. But IoT is like M2M on steroids – it has more access for more users through more channels than M2M typically has. In theory, IoT sounds like a panacea to all our technology woes. However, with this amazing potential also come serious concerns, especially when you move beyond consumer usage into connected critical infrastructure like utilities, transportation systems, cities and public safety. The project-management challenge alone is daunting as there are many pieces and projects to cobble together for an end-to-end IoT solution, not to mention the technology itself. The potential is there, but the practicality of implementing IoT is mind-boggling. Hear from a panel of experts as they provide a toolkit of best practices for the many aspects of IoT. Key topics include power considerations, security, reliability, access and authentication, scalability, data analytics, new devices, system upgrades and the technology for this brave new world.
