Digital Radios for Firefighters: The Impact of New Technology
Session # TH05
Date/Venue Thursday, 03/19/2009 10:00AM -11:10AM
Description Description:
Join an important discussion of the impact of a new technology once it’s in use.  Does it help or does it hinder?  What is the learning curve of end users?  This issue has come to the forefront with the recent roll out of digital radios for firefighters.  Can the new digital vocoders differentiate between background noise and voice, or is it a simply a user issue?  Should departments continue with a traditional analog network which may provide better intelligibility, or move to a digital system that may provide better coverage? Join the debate.
