Ari Toivonen works as a development manager at State Security Networks on Virve 2.0, the Finnish mission critical public safety mobile broadband project.
Ari is an experienced telecommunications professional who has focused on mission-critical communications since 2000, first at Nokia before moving to deliver the current Airwave system and the future Emergency Services Network in Great Britain, from where he moved to his current role in Finland last year.
In his various roles Ari has provided strategic and technical guidance on various aspects of the mission-critical communications landscape including security, functionality, technology roadmap, user requirements and spectrum needs.
Ari has taken an active role in several related national and international working groups over these years including serving as a board member and director of the TCCA and as the chairman of the TETRA user requirements standardisation working group. During his time in the UK he also worked closely with several UK government departments and the spectrum regulator Ofcom on the government’s spectrum strategy and the public sector spectrum release program, chairing the UK’s Public Safety Spectrum Policy Group.
