I started in the fire service over fifty years ago. After volunteering at Hose Company Number 4 in Harrisonburg/Rockingham Virginia where I still serve as a member of the Board of Directors, I moved to a career position as a professional firefighter for the City of Staunton, Virginia. In 1974, I accepted a position as a firefighter for the City of Charlottesville, Virginia. I remained a public safety employee in Charlottesville for thirty-three years. At the rank of Battalion Chief in special operations, I retired in 2006.
After retirement, I accepted a position with the SyTech Corporation of Alexandria, Virginia. My function was to serve the company as the public safety advisor for the new project called the Commonwealth’s Link to Interoperable Communications (COMLINC). For over 14 years, I have been working with stakeholders around the State of Virginia to make COMLINC a success using the RIOS system. It has been my honor to work on this remarkable project. My goal has always been, make interoperability real.
